Exercise 8:
Konik , I. 2007. “Thematising the ugly side of sublime
technological development in Sonzero’s Pulse (2006) as an inadvertent critique
of the “technocentrisim” of “postmodernity”. South African Journal of Art
History 22(3).
My Understanding:
Konik relates to a movie by the name of Sonzero’s Pulse.
She discusses how Postmodernity
questioned the beliefs that controlled the public. Capitalism and technological
development was disseminated to reserve the advancement of modernity. The rise
of technology made it a necessary need because people rely on it in order to
survive. Technocentricism is when people no longer know the true meaning of
physical contact as they have brought about a life full of worries, sadness and
problems. The masses have been dehumanized as they are so brainwashed with
their technology. Technology has caused many to forget the valued means of communications
such as interacting with one another face to face or writing letters. Humans
have become lost in this tool. They are way more worried about their appearance
with technology and what others will think of them, if they do not keep up to
date with technology. In actual fact, technology is destroying them slowly, as
they are no longer independent.
